Having originated during the aftermath of Hurricanes Rita and Katrina, the Equine Disaster Relief Fund was formed to help ensure the safety and well-being of horses during trying times. Money donated to the Equine Disaster Relief Fund is used to prepare for disasters and assists equines of any breed who are victims of disasters including but not restricted to hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, blizzards, and fires. Money donated to the fund is held by US Equestrian in an account dedicated for this purpose and distributed only upon authorization of the US Equestrian Chief Executive Officer. Any donation to the Equine Disaster Relief Fund is a timely and efficient benefit for horses and horse owners.

The AAEP Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization created in 1994, serves as the charitable arm of the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) to improve the welfare of the horse.
