The 2014 Belmont Stakes was won by the nation’s highest paid jockey in 2013 and winner of the $10M Dubai World Cup aboard Animal Kingdom, Joel Rosario. Rosario’s win on Satuday in the 2014 Belmont Stakes, also referred to as the 146th Belmont Stakes, added a Triple Crown Third Jewel victory to the jockey’s growing list of career achievements. The race was won by 1-3/4 lengths aboard the Robert Evans owned Tonalist, who edged out Todd Pletcher trainee Commissioner by a head.

“We were a little bit nervous about having the outside post and how he’d react to the crowd,” Robert Evans explained during the post-race press conference. “But it didn’t bother him a bit. He broke well, got a good position and Joel rode him beautifully.”

In regards to Tonalist denying California Chrome the Triple Crown victory, Evans said, “We loved California Chrome. We hoped he’d win the Triple Crown, but we love our horse too.”
