Bred in Kentucky by Brereton C. Jones, Albano was sent to auction at Keeneland with a reserve price of $37,000 in September of 2012. When his reserve was not meant he was bought back by C. Jones and put into training.  Making his debut three months prior to being considered a 3-year-old, the colt had his first career start at Churchill Downs in October of 2013 and was running in graded stakes races by January 2014. Due to a relatively late birthday in April, connections found that the colt needed more time to mature and build stamina, and therefore passed up running him in the 140th Kentucky Derby. As for running style, past performances suggest he prefers to stay one or two positions behind the pace and stands a much better chance of winning when he makes his move between the 1/2 mile and 3/4 mile calls.
